Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayPresident Donald Trump’s support among naturalized citizens has taken a shocking dive since he returned to the White House.
While immigrant voters showed up for Trump in historic numbers in 2024, his net approval rating with the demographic has plummeted a whopping 44 points since he was elected to his second term in office.
“It turns out that actions do, in fact, have consequences,” CNN’s Harry Enten said as he laid out the numbers for “News Central” on Tuesday morning.
Any gains Trump made with naturalized citizens in 2024 seem to have almost completely vaporized, with polling from the Pew Research Center showing support has tanked from -2 to -46 points in the past two years.
“Immigrant voters are waving ‘Adios amigos, goodbye’ to the president of the United States,” Enten told viewers.
Though CNN’s numbers guy said the economy and other issues were definitely factors, he had data showing how much Trump’s aggressive crackdown on immigration has shaped naturalized citizens’ opinions.
Citing polls where 60% of immigrant voters said they believed that Trump has gone too far on deportations, Enten said, “I think immigrant voters, just like other Americans, they thought they were signing up for one thing, and what they got was something very, very different, and they did not want what they see as the harshness of the Trump deportation policies.”
While Trump isn’t on the ballot this November, it appears that his unpopularity among immigrant voters will still have an effect on his fellow Republicans.
Naturalized citizens’ support for House Democrats sits at a net 22% compared to the 4% margin then-Vice President Kamala Harris had during her race against Trump.
“This is going to be a big part of the story,” Enten said. “If Republicans can’t hold onto them, it’s just another group that they haven’t been able to hold onto that Donald Trump made big gains with back in 2024.”
