Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayPresident Donald Trump delivered a unique closing message to his supporters on Tuesday ahead of next week’s midterm elections: Dinner at his Mar-a-Lago resort is very, very expensive.
As Americans struggle to pay for food, fuel and other basic living expenses, the president plugged his promise to pay every adult $5,000 only if Republicans win ― a move ex-prosecutors have called a bribe.
Trump said the checks, which most believe have little chance of actually being sent out given his history, would come with one string attached.
“But the only caveat is that the Trump dividend, it has, you have to spend the money in the United States,” he said. “Go to Florida. Go to any one of our great places. You could even come to Mar-a-Lago. You’ll be my guest at Mar-a-Lago.”
Trump's affordability message: "You could even come to Mar-a-Lago. You'll be my guest. The problem is that for $5,000 the most you'll be able to buy is a hamburger and maybe a small dessert. I'm not even sure you could buy that! No, don't go there. It's not a good place if you're… pic.twitter.com/Fc4sCGGhTw
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) October 27, 2026The president seemed to have second thoughts about that offer immediately.
“The problem is that for $5,000, the most you’ll be able to buy is a hamburger and maybe a small dessert,” he said.
Then the president backtracked even further.
“I’m not even sure you could buy that,” he said, then appeared to withdraw the invitation completely: “No, don’t go there. That’s not a good place if you’re price conscious.”
Trump won the 2024 election in large part by promising to reduce the prices of groceries, gas and other expenditures from his very first day in office. Instead, prices have continued to climb, largely because of his war in Iran, which caused fuel prices to surge and inflation to rise 3.7% last month compared to a year earlier.
Critics pointed out that it was an awkward time to brag about how unaffordable his resort is ― and in poor taste to tell his own supporters they can’t afford to dine in his club.
They hit back on X:
Incredible to do this after days of conservatives saying that Obama’s Cheesecake Factory joke shows that he’s an elitist who hates Middle America. Beginning to think he’s got a huge Kalshi bet on Dems taking the Senate. https://t.co/waJexe4Jha
— Helen Lewis (@helenlewis) October 27, 2026Folks, seriously, this is an abusive relationship.
How many times does this man need to harm you, your family and your community before you understand that he really doesn’t give a damn about you or those you love?!
Wake up America and show your disgust at the polls! https://t.co/lZQQ7ngWs3
Recalls the memorable end of “A Face in the Crowd “—but maybe these people are being paid & that is why they endure the abuse. https://t.co/hbRbNINtRD
— Joyce Carol Oates (@JoyceCarolOates) October 28, 2026I love that the White House political people tried to mobilize their flying monkeys to say Obama was a snob for his attacks on Trump’s ballroom, and Trump himself went with “Cheesecake Factory is a very rich company and none of you plebes can afford a hamburger at my club.” https://t.co/o7ERIffg2Z
— Jesse Lee (@JesseCharlesLee) October 27, 2026Our president telling us won't sell a hamburger and a small dessert for less than 5k is some really fucking demented shit WTF! https://t.co/RU3Ao2RsgC
— James Tate (@JamesTate121) October 27, 2026Nobody hates middle class Americans more than trump.
— Mason (@masonisonx) October 27, 2026Let him cook. I couldn't have written a better closer for everywhere he goes this week.
Don't change a thing.
Picasso. https://t.co/paZgxQ5eSF
😂 The Cheesecake Factory thing really got to him, didn't it.
He'll wake up screaming thinking that he's a pig in blanket being eaten by Obama 😂 https://t.co/hRoYg3t7Fb
