Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayCNN’s Erin Burnett on Tuesday highlighted how she believes Donald Trump is already laying the groundwork to cast doubt on the 2026 midterm election results, should Republicans lose big next week.
The “OutFront” anchor noted Republican fears about losing control of the House, and potentially the Senate, as Trump has hit the campaign trail hard in the final stretch.
“But what’s the plan? The plan if Republicans do suffer major losses in this election? Well, Trump is already looking for a way out,” she said.
Burnett aired footage of Trump being asked Tuesday whether he’ll “respect the results” of the 2026 midterms “whatever happens.”
Trump answered, “I will if they’re honest elections.”
Burnett seized on the caveat:
“‘If they’re honest elections,’ it’s always that qualifier. Right? It’s unclear what he considers an honest election, since, of course, this country has honest elections.”
She then pointed to new analysis from The Washington Post showing that “nearly 600 high-profile right-wing social media accounts, podcasts and other online media have published more than 7,000 statements questioning the election’s integrity so far this year.”
Burnett noted how they have simply echoed Trump’s own rhetoric, which she said was helping set the stage to question the results, pointing to his warning this week to “be careful of the voter fraud.”
