The thing that keeps Ky Dickens up at night is this: right now, thousands of non-speaking people are trapped inside their bodies, fully aware, as intelligent as anyone their age or more so, and unable to communicate. Not because they have nothing to say, but because spelling is not believed to be real, or is too expensive and inaccessible for their families to learn. This conversation is, in the end, about them. Ky explains what non-speakers can do once they learn spelling, and why nearly every one of them needs a communication regulation partner to help keep their body focused so they can spell independently on a keyboard. She is candid that this is not taught in schools and is costly to provide, and that this has to change. She hired five non-speakers onto the film itself, on story, graphics, and science, because it is their lives and their stories. And she makes a point that reframes the whole Telepathy Tapes project: these individuals are not magical. The gifts they show are human capacities we all carry and have simply lost touch with. If their other senses have betrayed them, perhaps that is exactly why they are more in touch with the fundamental field of consciousness. Her answer: there is a baseline we start from and return to, call it universal consciousness, the information field, God, heaven. Earth is a school where we learn to love, to sacrifice, to be present. The body is only a temporary package in which consciousness animates itself.
