Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe anti-Trumper mistaken for a Donald Trump die-hard during a live Fox News hit from a GOP midterms campaign rally in South Carolina on Thursday — and who delivered a minute of pure TV magic trolling the president and his supporters — has revealed what prompted him.
Read the full interview on The Handbasket.
A viral video showed Tom Hoyle telling Fox News’ Lucas Tomlinson that he was attending the rally, where Trump spoke, because “in the late ’70s, I was a little too young to get involved and go to South America for the Jonestown Massacre, but this is as close as I’ll ever get.”
A confused Tomlinson asked Hoyle, “Wait, the Jonestown Massacre?”
Hoyle then delivered the punch line: “That’s right. Nothing like seeing a cult right up front, man.”
Tomlinson quickly twigged, saying, “Maybe this is not a Trump supporter,” before moving on to speak with other attendees.

FOX NEWS: Tom, why are you here this morning?
TOM: There's nothing like seeing a cult right up front

Hoyle later told The Handbasket’s Marisa Kabas that he ended up at the rally after its organizers “broke the cardinal rule with MadPark Designs,” his printing business, by cold-calling him to attend the event.
“We despise that,” he said, explaining the call “pushed me over the edge and I said, here’s my opportunity. Let’s go do something goofy.”
Hoyle, who has previously protested the Trump administration’s anti-immigration policies, said he was once a registered Republican but followed his father’s advice to vote for every qualified candidate, regardless of party. He re-registered as an independent around 18 months ago.
“I don’t want the stain of what used to be the Republican Party on me anymore. There is no Republican Party. It’s just MAGA, and they’re dead,” he said.
His original plan at Thursday’s rally was to heckle Trump, who he said he has hated since the late 1980s, with “something super vulgar.” But when the opportunity for the Fox News interview arose, he said he seized it, coming up with the Jonestown line “off the cuff.”
Hoyle suggested his appearance may have convinced the interviewer that he was a Trump supporter, likening himself to a “daywalker.” He added, “I look like you, but I’m not like you. I’m the vampire during the day ― come talk to me and watch yourself get bitten.”
Hoyle said the Secret Service later escorted him out of the venue.
And as for the timing of the viral gag, Hoyle credited a comedy legend: “That’s Billy Crystal. I learned timing from Billy Crystal.”
