In 1964, at the site of El Bebedero in the Canary Islands, two amphorae dating to the Roman period were discovered. Since the 1990s, there have been more finds of amphorae, pottery, and glass, which appear to have origins in the Mediterranean. This has led to the question of whether or not the Roman empire had some sort of a trade relationship with the Canary Islands. It isn't something that is settled as of yet, but there does appear to be some sort of contact between the two regions. The site of El Bebedero is something a mystery however, because there doesn't appear to be a long term Roman presence on the islands, only native sites. So, it's not clear what the Romans would have recieved in return for the trade.
