Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwaySen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), typically a loyalist to President Donald Trump, criticized the administration’s decision to waive sanctions on Russia to lower diesel prices, calling it a “mistake.”
“Yeah. Look, I wish the president hadn’t done it. I think it was a mistake. I think the president, understandably, is focused on diesel prices, is focused on gasoline prices. He should be focused on it,” Cruz said Saturday on Fox News.
He then stated that gas prices were higher under the Biden administration. Trump made a similar comparison in recent days, prompting CNN to note that it was only true for a small window of Biden’s presidency occurring directly after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
The president’s executive order to waive sanctions late Friday outraged multiple members of Congress. The sanctions had previously gained overwhelming support from lawmakers and were widely viewed as a testament to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) legacy.
See Cruz’s comments below:
Trump’s critics have long warned of the U.S. cozying up to Russian President Vladimir Putin amid the war with Ukraine. The executive order also comes as the administration and the Republican Party as a whole are facing dismal poll numbers ahead of the midterm elections, largely due to the economic consequences of the war in Iran.
Cruz, who was standing next to Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Ark.), told Fox News that “people are hurting” and “feeling real pain” amid high gas and diesel prices, but that there are “other ways” to address the issue.
The Texas senator proposed importing diesel from his home country of Canada, which he would “makes sense,” because it’s a “friend” to the U.S, despite Trump’s bizarre insults and tariffs.
“I’d like to see this trade war end. I’d like to see it end now, and importing it from Canada doesn’t result in giving an enemy of America billions of dollars that they use against us and against our interest,” Cruz said.
