The room’s pungent odor of marijuana led to the discovery of four individuals hiding beneath blankets. Among them were Joseph Angel Gusman and Daniel Castillo Dionisio, both 21 and identified as gang members who had previously crossed the border illegally multiple times. Dionisio, particularly concerning, was wanted in New Orleans on felony warrants for aggravated assault with a firearm and armed robbery. After his arrest, he was booked into the jail in Maverick County.

The other three illegal aliens were turned over to Border Patrol. Meanwhile, two American citizens, Juella Monet Brown and Starr Ricki Drake, were charged with operating the stash house and taken into custody. Further illustrating the ongoing challenges, a recent report highlighted the capture of a human smuggler in Del Rio. After fleeing from troopers in a hotel parking lot, he was apprehended, and four illegal aliens were found in his vehicle.
