Lawrence Jones, a co-host of the top-rated weekday edition of Fox & Friends, has enrolled in law school while maintaining his full-time television role. The 33-year-old broadcaster recently revealed that he began the online Juris Doctor program at Syracuse University this past August, all while continuing to appear on the program alongside co-hosts Ainsley Earhardt, Steve Doocy, and Brian Kilmeade.

While speaking with People magazine, Jones noted that he was named a permanent co-host in 2023. Three years earlier, Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott encouraged him to resume legal studies despite the demands of the position. Jones recalled that Scott told him the schedule could be managed.

“She’s like, ‘You can make it work. You really can,’” he recalled. Jones later reached out to Syracuse specifically to verify the program’s rigor.

“When I tell my friends about this, they think this is like the Kim Kardashian program. It’s not,” the Fox host said. “It’s real law school. It has the same rigor.” During a visit to Syracuse, Jones noted that other students were also balancing demanding professional obligations, including one emergency-room physician who completed coursework during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jones told People that he had considered pursuing a career in law enforcement when he was a teenager. He later enrolled at the University of North Texas, where he studied criminal justice with the intention of attending law school afterward.

During his junior year he entered television work and did not complete that original plan, however. He has stated that he promised his parents, particularly his father, that he would eventually return to school. Jones’ father advised against offering excuses for unfinished goals, which he cited as a primary motivation.

“I always made my parents a promise, though — specifically my father — that I would always go back to school. And I just never found a program from my perspective that [would allow me to] still do school and do TV,” he said.

Additional personal circumstances coincided with the application and enrollment process. In December 2025 Jones was diagnosed with a retinal detachment that resulted in vision loss in one eye, which forced him to undergo three surgeries while preparing for and beginning the program. He has described managing the medical recovery alongside the start of coursework.

All told, Jones hopes to apply the coursework within his existing role rather than leave journalism. “There’s so much law in my job currently,” he noted. “You almost have to take your personal feelings out of a case or a story and just look at what the law says. Law school by design teaches you to argue both arguments, pro and con.”
