DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin visited Warren County, Ohio, for a roundtable with ICE officials and local law enforcement focused on the federal 287(g) program, which allows participating local agencies to perform certain immigration enforcement functions under ICE supervision. Mullin highlighted cooperation between federal and local authorities and praised Warren County’s partnership with ICE. Warren County Sheriff Barry Riley said the county’s 287(g) agreement has been used to assist with immigration enforcement in accordance with federal law. The visit comes as ICE reported nearly 51,000 immigration-related arrests nationwide in August, according to DHS.
