Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayLarry Fink's BlackRock manages $15.3 trillion — the largest pile of money on Earth, larger than the economy of every country except the United States and China. Nobody seized that power. It accumulated, automatically and legally, because BlackRock became the caretaker of everybody else's savings. That is exactly what makes it so hard to fight. First, the myth — because it is everywhere, and it is false. BlackRock is NOT buying up all the houses. That story confuses BlackRock, an asset manager, with Blackstone, the private-equity firm BlackRock was born inside in 1988. BlackRock says it does not buy single-family homes at all. Of roughly 15 million single-family rentals in the United States, institutional investors own around 300,000 — most of the rest belong to individual landlords. The truth is bigger than the rumour. BlackRock does not need to own your house to shape your economy. Through index funds — built out of ordinary people's pensions and retirement savings — BlackRock became one of the two or three largest shareholders in almost every giant company you can name. It is the second-biggest shareholder in Apple, at roughly seven and a half percent of the entire company. A top owner of the bank that holds your money. The oil company that fuels your car. The brands on your shelf. And being a top shareholder comes with a vote. Who sits on the board. How much the CEO gets paid. What the company stands for. A handful of firms, BlackRock among them, now cast an outsized share of those votes across nearly the whole stock market. Then there is Aladdin — the risk system Fink built after his team lost $100 million at First Boston in 1986 and he was pushed out the door. By recent reporting, more than $20 trillion in assets sit on that platform. Banks use it. Insurers use it. Pension funds, rivals, and even governments plug into it — all reading from the same screen. This is what we call OWNING WITHOUT OWNING: you bought the shares, and somebody else votes them. No election was held. No law was broken.
