A political, economic, social, constitutional, and cultural crime has been committed in Venezuela. The perpetrators are known! They are the United States, with their obsession to dominate everything, particularly in the Americas, by reaffirming the disastrous Monroe Doctrine.

In a flagrant act of aggression against the territorial integrity and independence of the country, in violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, Venezuela’s sovereignty has been confiscated. The country and its people have been unilaterally placed under Washington’s tutelage. President Nicolás Maduro, democratically elected and internationally recognized, along with his wife Cilia Flores, were kidnapped during a deadly American military attack. They are now incarcerated in a high-security prison in the United States, under inhumane conditions. Nicolás Maduro’s close collaborator, Alex Saab, was arrested by the Venezuelan police, handed over, and extradited to the USA. The inalienable right of the Venezuelan people and nation to freely determine their own destiny, without any outside intervention, force, or coercion, has been violated. For Donald Trump, racketeering and aggression have become another way of governing.

The government in place in Caracas with the approval of the Americans has chosen the path of collaboration. By placing itself servilely at the service of those giving orders from Washington, it has thus given up the fight, and refused to give arms to its people as of this past January 3rd, when numerous militants of the popular militias came to ask for them.

Through a secret “negotiation,” without any popular consultation respectful of the Bolivarian constitution and in contempt of the history and struggles of the Venezuelan people, it ceded a significant portion of its territory, its infrastructure, as well as oil extraction sites, to US multinational corporations.

Presented as the oil contract of the century, the 65 billion barrels of oil extorted by D. Trump will allow the United States to double its reserves. After being warmly thanked by the authorities in Caracas, he cynically congratulated himself on what he dared to present as a “gift from Venezuela to the American people.”

However, in the opinion of numerous experts, and for technical reasons related to refining, transport, and use, this extortion will take many years before becoming operational. It therefore appears to be a partisan, electioneering, and politicking decision linked to the social and political crises in the USA.

This considerable wealth, the property of an entire people, is thus being seized. Like war plunder, the billions that were meant to fund schools, hospitals, and all the various structures of the country are being handed over to the USA, thereby sacrificing the future of an entire nation. Washington’s administrative oversight has become absolute and nitpicking; it now governs Venezuela like a proconsul. The Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano declared: “It is our wealth that makes us poor!”

The puppet government has indeed deprived its own people and its nation of their inalienable right to determine their own destiny, which requires, as a precondition, their right to exercise permanent sovereignty over the whole of their wealth, their natural resources, and their economic activity.

Lies and renunciation have now been elevated to the rank of principles of government. Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chávez, the liberators from colonial oppression who had restored pride and freedom to an entire nation, have been betrayed.

This unprecedented American brigandage once again tramples on the United Nations Charter and international law, and destabilizes an entire region. It also threatens international energy balances and, in doing so, aggravates the state of war caused by the United States and Israel against Iran and other countries of the Arabian Peninsula, such as Yemen.

Consequently, it is urgent to put an end to this mafia-like policy of systematic interference, to this barbarity that seeks to hold back a new movement of emancipation across the world.

In Venezuela, numerous voices are already rising among the most illustrious in the camp of the Bolivarian revolution; among them, several companions of Hugo Chávez. Struggles are multiplying, the first demonstrations are taking place at the initiative of workers, trade unionists, intellectuals from all disciplines, and residents of the Comunas, those places of popular and revolutionary power that are today threatened in their very existence.

The Venezuelan people have no other choice but to demonstrate their unity and relaunch the anti-imperialist struggle in order to respond to the loss of their sovereignty and independence.

Together with all of them, we demand:

• The immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and of the deputy Cilia Flores, his companion;
• The immediate withdrawal of American forces from Venezuela and from the entire region;
• The immediate restitution of all revenues from Venezuelan exports currently under the control of the United States, as well as the restitution of all other assets of the Venezuelan state that have been seized and are currently held by, among others, the Bank of England;
• The immediate lifting of all unilateral coercive measures, such as sanctions contrary to the United Nations Charter and international law, embargoes, blockades, and the targeted freezing of assets, imposed by the United States and the European Union against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela;
• Full reparations for all damages caused by the resort to unlawful acts of aggression, including unilateral coercive measures, in accordance with international law.

As the great Venezuelan writer Luis Britto García, former member of the Council of State, puts it so well: “Venezuela must become Venezuela again.”
