Loch Ness has "Nessie," the Chesapeake has "Chessie," and the Altamaha River has "Altamaha-ha" or "Altie" (for short).

In Southeastern Georgia where the Altamaha River runs, there is a legendeary sea monster - Altie. The legend began, it is said, with the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe.

Fleeting glimpses of something moving the water and associated hissing sounds have been witnessed for hundreds of years.

This curious creature has front flippers but no hind limbs. The Altamaha-ha is said to move up and down like a dolphin, and is often depicted with white speckles on its back and a light underbelly.

Given the size of this river basin and its attachment to the ocean, it's possible something is in the water. Could it be something like a manatee? Until we get some real cellphone captures from citizens, this case remains open.
