Adhikari alleged that efforts were being made to rob the true marginalised communities of their rightful share. "Real SCs, STs, and OBCs will watch their benefits evaporate as ineligible people will swarm in, staking unethical claims," he claimed.

"The WB Govt has the habit of issuing OBC Certificates (mostly religion based) to ineligible people which have been struck down by the Hon’ble Courts. Let the SIR purge the electoral rolls clean, and let Democracy prevail," he added.

On the other hand, the Trinamool Congress continued its crusade against the Commission since it announced dates of the SIR process in Bengal.

The Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while addressing in a rally in Cooch Behar district on Tuesday alleged, “The Election Commission of India may announce the dates of the assembly polls, scheduled next year, soon after the final voters’ list is released so that no one can move the court challenging the electoral rolls.”

Names of many genuine voters are being deleted during the roll revision exercise. People who are still alive being shown as deceased in the voters’ list by the Commission, she alleged.

The Chief Minister during her two-day visit to Cooch Behar on Monday afternoon questioned in the administrative review meeting at Rabindra Bhavan in the district about timing and urgency of the SIR.
