The U.S. passport is getting a digital makeover and a redesigned look. Secretary of State Marco Rubio unveiled changes to the passport process alongside the launch of America.gov, including plans for a streamlined online application that will allow applicants to complete forms and submit photos digitally. The redesigned passport will feature updated artwork highlighting American history and heritage, including a larger gold eagle and a more prominent Great Seal. The new online application process is expected to launch in December, while the redesigned passport is expected to begin rolling out in 2028. The State Department reported more than 183 million valid U.S. passports were in circulation in 2025.
