Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayPresident Donald Trump called a reporter a “fresh person” who’s causing a “lot of problems” on Tuesday in the Oval Office.
NewsNation’s Libbey Dean was at the receiving end of Trump’s scolding as she tried to squeeze in inquiries about the president’s war against Iran. Trump was taking questions after signing an executive order to try to create a national voting list to restrict mail-in voting.
Trump has made a practice of calling out journalists, often to shame them for asking questions he doesn’t like. Women are frequent targets. In November, he addressed a female reporter as “Piggy.” But he’s also attacked administration-friendly outlets, telling a male Newsmax reporter last week, “You’re not doing a very good job.”
Tuesday’s tension with Dean boiled over when she asked him if he required a deal with Iran to exit the war, and appeared to ask him if he had talked directly to Iran’s leaders.
“No, Iran doesn’t have to make a deal, no,” the president cut in. “I’ve spoken to a lot of people. It’s a new regime. They are much more accessible. They are right. You know, they said, ‘We have a present for you, Mr. President, out of respect. And they said ―’”
Dean interjected to perhaps resume her point, and Trump lashed out.
“Wait a minute,” the president said. “Do you want me to answer the question? You’re a fresh person. You know? We’ve had a lot of problems with you, haven’t we? Uh, no, they don’t. You asked me a question. No, they don’t have to make a deal with me. When we feel that they are for a long period of time, put into the Stone Ages, and they won’t be able to come up with a nuclear weapon, then we’ll leave, whether we have a deal or not. It’s irrelevant.”
The White House’s Rapid Response team framed the exchange as a Trump victory, writing, “@POTUS nukes a rude @LibbeyDean_ after being interrupted.”
