CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten on Wednesday highlighted how President Donald Trump remains in his “worst position” ever on inflation, hitting negative polling territory that Joe Biden failed to reach during his time in office.

“And more than that, these are the worst numbers I’ve ever seen for any president,” said Enten, who looked at figures on Trump’s handling of Americans’ No. 1 issue in a segment early last week. (Watch his latest analysis below.)

With gas prices hitting wartime highs and inflation jumping to its highest level in two years, Trump’s net approval rating on an issue he once pledged to eradicate has cratered to -49 points, per the results of a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

That puts Trump six points more “underwater” than Biden ever was, per Enten.

Biden hit a -43 net approval rating on inflation in June 2022, a month that saw the highest inflation during his presidency, he noted.

“These are really stunning numbers right here,” Enten later added.

The inflation rate, he said, is currently about one-third of what it was nearly four years ago.

“Yet Trump’s numbers are significantly worse than Biden’s ever were,” he stressed.

Later in the segment, Enten turned his attention to how Trump’s figures stack against those of Jimmy Carter, whose presidency sank due to inflation.

Carter — just before he got wrecked by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 election — held a -46 net approval rating on inflation, leaving Trump in a worse position on the issue.

As Trump’s handling of inflation faces overwhelming disapproval, 75% of independents say the U.S. is on the wrong track when it comes to the cost of living (versus 9% who say it’s on the right one), per the Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Among Republicans, that figure is less (45% say the U.S. is on the wrong track) but closer to the slice of those who say it’s on the right one (39%).

“Donald Trump has lost every single part of this electorate,” Enten said.

“And when you take his name out of the equation, you see even the plurality of Republicans say that the country is on the wrong track when it comes to [the cost of living].”
