President Donald Trump went on a racist tirade Wednesday morning, claiming Minnesota’s fraud is caused by undocumented immigrants from Somalia and calling Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who is Somali American, an “ungrateful loser.”

“Much of the Minnesota Fraud, up to 90%, is caused by people that came into our Country, illegally, from Somalia,” Trump wrote Wednesday on Truth Social. “‘Congresswoman’ Omar, an ungrateful loser who only complains and never contributes, is one of the many scammers. Did she really marry her brother? Lowlifes like this can only be a liability to our Country’s greatness. Send them back from where they came, Somalia, perhaps the worst, and most corrupt, country on earth. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Omar’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

After a right-wing influencer posted a video Friday claiming that day cares run by Somalis in Minneapolis had committed up to $100 million in fraud, FBI Director Kash Patel and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced they would increase operations in Minnesota this week to investigate any alleged fraud that involves stealing federal dollars meant for social services.

On Tuesday, the Department of Health and Human Services froze child care payments to Minnesota, and on Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration is considering stripping Somali Americans who participated in any fraud related to their citizenship.

“We’ve spent years cracking down on fraudsters,” Walz wrote. “It’s a serious issue — but this has been his plan all along. He’s politicizing the issue to defund programs that help Minnesotans.”

For years, Minnesota has had cases of fraud under review, including one during the pandemic involving the nonprofit Feeding our Future, which allegedly exploited $300 million of federal funds meant to feed children. Seventy-eight people have been charged, most of them of Somali descent, according to The Associated Press.

Trump targeted Somalis in comments earlier this month, calling them “garbage” and saying he doesn’t want Somali immigrants in the country.
