President Donald Trump may be in favor of jailing people who burn the American flag, but how does he feel about people who just walk by when it appears to be lying on the ground?

It’s an important question, considering the president was photographed doing just that at the White House on Sunday night.

A photo taken by Getty Images photographer Mandel Ngan as Trump was returning from Palm Beach shows the president walking past a flagpole where the flag appears to be lowered to the ground.

That’s a potential violation of the U.S. Flag Code, which states that “the flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.”

White House spokesman Davis Ingle told People the whole thing was “fake news.”

“The beautiful American flag on the White House South Lawn that was recently installed by President Trump never touched the ground,” he said in a statement. “Due to the high winds on Sunday evening in the Washington, D.C. area, the flag was lowered into a special container out of an abundance of caution during the Marine One landing.”

Despite the denial from the White House, many people on social media were shocked by the unintentional symbolism the photo conveyed.

Here is Trump walking past the American flag in the dirt. Any other President would have immediately stopped as the American flag is NEVER supposed to the touch the ground but he does NOTHING.

Nothing says screw America like this picture right here. pic.twitter.com/C5CY6JArIL

Hey MAGA uber-patriots: Here is your virile, very stable genius, god king shuffling back to the White House, now partly in rubble, with the American flag on the ground. pic.twitter.com/qKAb8BoJXz

The White House’s staff has so little regard for Trump that they don’t even bother making an attempt at keeping the American flag from touching the ground even as he passes by. pic.twitter.com/3EAhAj2v0e

Fitting for this anti-America administration. pic.twitter.com/jifqFflVIS

This is how the White House treats the flag of the United States of America?

They just let it lie on the ground! I’m sure our US military members who follow the page could share the rules for handling the flag! Once again, Trump is a travesty against our great nation. pic.twitter.com/apzQVWrHh6

Getty photographers have gone viral in recent weeks for unique photos of the president that metaphorically satisfy the emotions of his haters.

Last month, photojournalist Jim Watson took a photo of Trump that looked, due to the way the camera was positioned, as though devil horns had sprouted from the president’s skull.

Earlier this month, a photo taken in the Oval Office by Getty Images photographer Andrew Harnik went viral as it appeared to show Trump having no reaction to a man passing out behind him.
