Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Monday skewered President Donald Trump over his Easter Sunday social media post — in which he used profanity, signed off with a traditional Muslim greeting and threatened Iran with “Hell” amid an escalating war he started.

“I hope you all had a great weekend, whether you celebrated Passover or Easter or, like our president, went 100% cage-free crazy on the internet — because on Easter morning he posted his latest plans for the war in Iran,” Colbert said at the top of his opening monologue.

Colbert went on to read Trump’s staggering post in a mocking, puffed-up voice.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH!”

Iran last month effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil passes, after Trump launched the war, which has resulted in the death of at least 13 U.S. service members and more than 2,000 Iranians, and now threatens to trigger a global energy crisis.

Colbert said Monday that it’s “not often that a network has to bleep the words of a sitting president,” before joking the last instance occurred during the administration of former President Harry Truman — who “put that famous sign on his desk, ‘The shit stops fuck.’”

Truman famously kept a reminder on the Resolute Desk that read, “The Buck Stops Here.”

“The Late Show” host went on to mock Trump over his ever-shifting deadlines for Iran to open the strait to ships, noting he already vowed in mid-March to “obliterate” their power plants if this wasn’t done within 48 hours — only to postpone said strikes several more times.

“At this point he’s tried every tactic except passive-aggressive parental guilt trip,” Colbert joked before imitating Trump: “‘Well, I guess you won’t open the Strait of Hormuz before I die, but that’s fine. I mean, who needs oil when I’m clearly never going to have grandchildren?’”

The war has become increasingly dire, however. Trump wrote Tuesday morning on social media about his latest deadline that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again” — and has repeatedly said no measures are off the table.
