MS NOW host Rachel Maddow on Monday highlighted a series of recurring scandals facing President Donald Trump after yet another fatal shooting by federal immigration agents, noting nothing under the MAGA leader’s purview appears to be changing, with a hopeful caveat.

“But you know what changes over time?” Maddow said. “The response changes. Our understanding of his fixation changes. The pushback changes. The fight back changes and appears to be getting stronger and more fearless over time.”

She continued, “And that, in turn, pushes him to more and more and more desperate actions on these same things that he keeps acting on over and over again. As the pushback against him gets stronger, he gets more and desperate and more reckless in the way he acts out.”

That pushback currently regards ongoing protests in Biddeford, Maine, after a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot a man Monday. It marked the second fatal ICE shooting in less than a week — and nearly a dozen in Trump’s second term.

“I know it sort of feels like a time warp, right?” Maddow said. “Like we are having one of these cycles in the news where things seem to be kind of circling around and chewing on their own tails a bit, right? All these feel like very familiar headlines.”

She noted, “Or at least very familiar themes, right? Violent, poorly-trained, poorly-led Trump ICE agents killing people in American streets, American people in large numbers instinctively and instantly protesting against those killings … the Strait of Hormuz closed again.”

The Trump administration launched new strikes on Iran over the weekend after Trump abandoned his memorandum of understanding with the country, and promised the Strait of Hormuz won’t be regulated by Iran — but that ships passing through will be charged by the U.S.

“And the Reflecting Pool has again just been drained, and they are again having work done on it in a no-bid contract by the same Trump-connected firm that did such a great job on the Reflecting Pool the first time around,” said Maddow. “I mean, these headlines, they recur.”

She noted this deja vu-inducing news cycle also includes Trump’s “outlandish” attempt to drop his $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service in exchange for $1.8 billion in taxpayer money and immunity against any potential tax crimes he might commit.

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams ruled Monday that the lawsuit Trump brought after a federal contractor leaked his tax returns during his first term was filed for an “improper purpose” and recommended sanctions and disciplinary action for his attorneys.

“A lot of these things feel like familiar headlines: Trump’s agents killing people in the streets, Americans protesting about it at the top of their lungs, Trump blowing it in Iran, Trump getting laughed at for blowing it in Iran, Trump’s lawyers getting laughed out of court,” said Maddow.

She noted, “It’s like these things are static categories of news in the Trump era.”

Maddow added Trump will also reportedly once again present baseless claims in a primetime address Thursday that the 2020 presidential election was rigged against him, but that one thing has certainly changed — namely “his desperation ramping up on this subject.”
