In January, Los Angeles came up with another idea, which, as usual, was not a good one. The city decided to install two small restrooms at Runyon Canyon, a popular trail for both locals and tourists that provides sweeping views of the city and had gone years without a permanent restroom.

That part of the idea was fine, but that’s when, as usual, the Los Angeles decision went off the rails. The building was a prefabricated structure with two stinking stalls and two water fountains.

The price for this Taj Mahal (try not to laugh) was a cool one million dollars. Yes, that’s correct. What you're looking at the city paid $1 million for.

It’s almost like every Democrat in that state takes stupid pills by the handful every single morning.

The California Post has reviewed the project documents, revealing a total cost of $961,125.48. Of this amount, $700,972.62 is designated for “deferred maintenance funds,” while $260,152.86 is allocated for “park fees,” according to the documents.

Still, the price tag may not be the worst part of the story. The bathrooms installed for the hikers still cannot be used. This thing was delivered by crane in February, and although the stalls, sinks, sidewalks, and lighting are in place, visitors are still unable to use them.

A frequent visitor to the canyon, Shirah Scott Astrof stated, “They’re about four months behind schedule, and I’m here every day and never see people working on it.”

Another frequent visitor, Arona Ackermann, added, “A lot of things like that happen in California, where a lot of money gets poured in, a lot of time goes by, and we don’t see the results that we hoped for.”

A website update from August 6, 2026, states:

“Construction is complete, and the project is in the final stages of the City’s approval process before it can open to the public. We expect the restroom to open soon and will share an update once the remaining steps are complete.”

Los Angeles is one of the most incompetent cities in the United States. It’s not bad enough that they totally overpaid for a prefabricated throne room; now they can’t even get the thing open.

The tiny splash zone is still totally fenced in, which is the perfect synopsis for all Los Angeles projects. First drastically overpay, then delay the scheduled opening for months.

It’s even money at this point that when they do open, something will be wrong and it will need to be closed again for repairs or for some other ridiculous reason,

This is the same city that turned its back on the fire victims, many of whom still can’t get the proper permits. Hopefully they’re not hikers, or they won’t be able to use Karen Bass’s porcelain palace either.
