New Jersey officials say a software error at the state's Motor Vehicle Commission resulted in thousands of non-U.S. citizens being mistakenly registered to vote between June 2023 and June 2024. Governor Mikie Sherrill says approximately 6,600 individuals were affected by the error, with preliminary findings indicating that fewer than 400 may have cast ballots. State officials say impacted registrations will be reviewed and corrected, the software vendor will be replaced, and an independent investigation is underway to determine how the error occurred.
