The individual who was found dead at a multi-family rental property in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood, which is owned by the husband of U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), died from a gunshot wound, according to a Boston Police Department report.

An autopsy was performed on the victim on Sunday morning, according to a report from the Boston Globe. The report did not classify the death as a homicide, though the department’s Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.

Boston police responded to the scene at 25 Malta St. on Saturday at approximately 1:52 p.m. Two officers responded to a radio call for a person shot at the address. Another officer at a BPD station in Hyde Park took a walk-in report of a person shot at 25 Malta St. #2, with the victim reported as still on scene.

Officers arrived and located the victim, who was pronounced deceased in a bedroom of apartment #2 within the multi-family home. The incident was reclassified as a death investigation.

Sergeant Detective John Boyle described the situation as a “death investigation” that is being investigated by the city’s homicide unit.

On Sunday afternoon, police indicated they had no additional information to release at that time. The victim has not been publicly identified, and no further details on suspects or circumstances have been released.

The property is a seven- to eight-bedroom multi-family home built in 1910, with approximately 2,713 square feet and four bathrooms. City records list Conan Harris, Pressley’s husband, as the owner.

The home has an assessed value of more than $919,000 and was listed for sale at $1.15 million at the time of the incident. Pressley and Harris do not reside at the property; they live in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood.

A spokesperson for Pressley confirmed it is a rental property and issued a brief statement. “The Congresswoman extends her deepest condolences to the impacted family,” she said.

The realtor for the property told WCVB that it is a rental and that the people living there “have resided there for a while,” though she did not specify the exact duration.

One resident who has lived on the street for 10 years noted that tenants occupied each floor of the home, including high school-aged teenagers, the Boston Globe reported. Another neighbor said she did not hear anything unusual earlier in the day but expressed concern for her children.
