Elon Musk has fired a warning shot at Democrats preparing for a possible congressional power shift, vowing to pursue the people he believes are orchestrating attacks against him. But with the November midterms approaching, the billionaire’s biggest challenge may be that the questions hanging over his business empire could soon receive far more scrutiny.
‘Live by the sword, die by the sword,’ Musk wrote on X on 21 October. He followed it with a pointed threat: ‘Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets.’ Fox Business and Forbes reported the remarks after Musk responded to a Politico report detailing Democrats’ potential oversight plans.
The Elon Musk Democratic probe controversy is no longer simply a political war of words. If Democrats win control of one or both chambers of Congress, they could gain greater power to hold hearings, demand records and investigate decisions made during President Donald Trump’s administration.
Musk’s warning raises the stakes. Yet the proposed investigations remain prospective, and scrutiny of a business or public official does not, by itself, establish wrongdoing.
Starlink Row Puts Musk Under a Global Spotlight
One flashpoint is Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, which has become strategically important to Ukraine’s military communications.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk ordered a slowdown affecting Starlink access used by Ukrainian forces. The report triggered concern among lawmakers over how much influence one private company executive should have over technology used in a war.
Musk has disputed reporting surrounding responsibility for restrictions, while the Trump administration’s account of who made the decision has also been contested. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said access decisions rest with Musk and SpaceX, while other accounts have pointed to the White House. The precise chain of responsibility remains disputed.
