Time for Zelensky to go: Elon Musk calls for Ukrainian president to step down amid Starlink dispute
Elon Musk called on Wednesday, October 14 for Volodymyr Zelensky to “go” as Ukraine’s president, as Kyiv raised doubts over US support for the war-torn country.
Starlink’s founder and tech billionaire Musk has publicly renewed calls for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to step down, declaring on social media that “the slaughter continues” and that “it is time for Zelensky to go”.
Ukraine accused the United States this week of helping Russia by failing to warn it of incoming missile strikes and hobbling Kyiv’s military response through changes to Musk’s satellite system which it uses for communications.
The fiery remarks came amid a mounting dispute over battlefield communications, following complaints from Kyiv that satellite services provided by SpaceX’s network had experienced speed limitations and disruptions impacting military drones and defense systems.
Zelensky had called on Musk to restore Starlink, which was designed by the mogul’s SpaceX company and which Kyiv says has been slowed down.
Musk pushed back against the criticism, insisting that any throttling or restrictions on the system were the responsibility of the U.S. government rather than SpaceX, while drawing lines between civilian Starlink architecture and military-focused operations.
In sync: Trump hits back at Zelensky and brands him ‘not a good guy’ in blistering attack
Donald Trump has hit out at Volodymyr Zelenskyy branding him “not a good guy” in a new blistering attack. It comes just days after the pair fell out after the Ukrainian leader branded a US deal to buy Russian diesel a “gift” to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In an interview with Newsmax Trump addresses the Russia – Ukraine war, he said: “Zelenskyy is not a good guy for us to deal with.” Trump was then asked by the presenter: “Have you lost faith in him?” To which Trump replied: “Well, I think they’re going to end up with a settlement of some kind, they’re not going to do it with him, he doesn’t want to settle. He says he wants to settle but he doesnt. No I’m not a big fan of Zelenskyy they’ve destroyed that country.”
Trump went on to say: “Putin hates Zelenskyy and Zelenskyy hates Putin and when you have that kind of hatred it’s very hard to get something settled; but that’s a war that should have never started.”
Asked if the war will end before he leaves office Trump said: ” It should end soon I think they actually both would like to see it end. But I think I find Zelenskyy more difficult to deal with than Putin.”
