Old Missouri Congressional map on the left and new Missouri Congressional map on the right. The Missouri Supreme Court tossed the new map AFTER primaries already took place! The wacky Missouri Supreme Court on Thursday threw out the state’s new congressional map that favored the GOP and eliminated one Democrat seat to Congress.
According to the ruling, the new map will only go into effect in 2028 if voters approve it during the 2026 midterms.
Missouri already held primaries! So Missouri Candidates have to figure out which district they are running in – after they already won their primary!
This is insane!
Back in September 2025, almost a year ago, GOP legislators in the state approved a redistricting plan that dismantled the Democrat stronghold of the 5th District in Kansas City, and partitioned it across rural Republican-dominated districts, according to AP News. The resolution passed 90-65. It wasn’t even close.
On Thursday afternoon, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced she will move immediately to seek relief from SCOTUS adding that she is confident the federal courts will not allow every Missouri voter to be disenfranchised.
Catherine Hanaway: “A republic, if you can keep it.” – Benjamin Franklin
Never before in American history has a court overturned a congressional map after a primary and before a general election. This unprecedented decision clearly violates federal law and has thrust our state into a full‑fledged constitutional crisis.
Our office will move immediately to seek relief from SCOTUS. We are confident that the federal courts will not allow every Missouri voter to be disenfranchised—which is what today’s decision does.

US Representative Bob Onder from Missouri, responded to today’s shocking decision.
The Missouri Supreme Court decision, overturning a congressional map between a primary in which voters chose candidates, and a general election, defies common sense and the rule of law. https://t.co/Jc39f9kMMr

St. Louis Radio host Mark Reardon chimed in earlier today.
RIDICULOUS ruling from the Missouri Supreme Court.
Just had @AGCHanaway on my show—she’s filing for a stay with SCOTUS right away.
How can people vote in a primary for one candidate and not have that even on the ballot in Nov. This cannot stand. https://t.co/mjQo4XcnFk

What a crazy ruling!
