MS Now host Mika Brzezinski had an on-air laugh over President Donald Trump’s boasts about the number of attendees at the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C.

On Monday’s installment of “Morning Joe,” Brzezinski expressed her doubts over Trump’s Truth Social claim that “at least 45,000” people attended his speech Wednesday on the opening night of the event, which honors America’s 250th anniversary and runs through July 10.

Accusing Trump of “gaslighting about crowd size,” Brzezinski cited a number of reports from various outlets that told a different story. NBC News, for instance, described the crowd as consisting of “more than 1,000” people. While The Washington Post didn’t cite a specific figure, the publication said attendees “thinly covered an area about the length of the National Museum of American History, smaller than some summer outdoor movie screenings.”

Not surprisingly, Fox News didn’t dispute Trump’s remark about the size of the crowd, but instead featured a commentator who stressed “pictures don’t tell the full story” and that visitors were likely to encounter “a wash of people.”

“Oh my God,” Brzezinski said in response to the Fox News clip, briefly covering her face to conceal her laughter. “Ouch! OK.”

The “Morning Joe” host wasn’t the only one who questioned the Fox News report. “If only they had employees who know how to operate cameras that could capture these images he describes,” conservative journalist Jonah Goldberg wrote Sunday on X while sharing video of the “wash of people” remark.

Visibly thin crowds aside, the Great American State Fair faced a number of well-documented issues prior to opening. Though a host of high-profile musical acts, including country artists Martina McBride and Bret Michaels, had initially been booked to perform at the event, most backed out beforehand. Rapper Vanilla Ice, who remained on the bill, ended up canceling his scheduled performance last Friday due to inclement weather.

True to form, Trump has remained on the defensive with regard to the event.

“Do you think people appreciate what a fantastic job we did in building and operating the Great American State Fair at the National Mall, packed with happy people, and everybody loving it?” he wrote on Truth Social early Monday. “Ask yourself this simple question, ‘DO YOU THINK THAT OBUMA OR SLEEPY JOE BIDEN COULD HAVE DONE IT?’ THE ANSWER IS NO!”
