Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayRep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), a former ally of President Donald Trump, says GOP lawmakers switched gears on the commander in chief after he won the 2024 Republican primary last year.
“Behind the scenes, do they talk differently?” asked CBS News correspondent Lesley Stahl in a “60 Minutes” interview with Greene that aired Sunday.
“Yes,” Greene said. “It would shock people.”
Greene went on to describe how many lawmakers changed their tone on Trump after he became the party’s presidential nominee.
“I watched many of my colleagues go from making fun of him, making fun of how he talks, making fun of me constantly for supporting him, to when he won the primary in 2024, they all started — excuse my language, Lesley — kissing his ass and decided to put on a MAGA hat for the first time,” she said.
Greene’s comments underscore long-standing reports of Republican lawmakers privately blasting Trump and his policy decisions, while publicly staying silent or praising him due to fears of getting attacked.
“I think they’re terrified to step out of line and get a nasty Truth Social post on them,” Greene said on “60 Minutes.”

In the last few months, Greene has become increasingly critical of the president after being a Trump loyalist for years. She’s broken with him on the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, and backed a bill that pushed for their disclosure. And she’s also raised concerns about Republicans’ failure to deliver a health care proposal as subsidies for the Affordable Care Act are set to expire.
These statements have provoked Trump’s ire and led to a falling out between the two.
Trump said in November that he was withdrawing his endorsement of Greene, and dubbed her a “traitor.” Greene also told “60 Minutes” that he was “furious” regarding her decision to sign a discharge petition that supported the release of the Epstein files.
“All of the death threats came from the ‘left’ until I stood with the Epstein Survivors, woman who were raped as teenagers, abused, and trafficked by rich powerful men, and that’s when President Trump turned on me and called me a ‘traitor’ and then new death threats and harassments came from the ‘right’ or somewhere,” Greene wrote in a post on Sunday.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), a Republican who voted to convict Trump during his second impeachment trial in his first term, has also spoken about the risks Republicans face when confronting the president.
“I’m oftentimes very anxious myself about using my voice, because retaliation is real,” Murkowski said at an event in April. “And that’s not right.”
