Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayMS NOW host Lawrence O’Donnell on Monday excoriated President Donald Trump over the ongoing U.S. military strikes off Venezuela and Defense Department Secretary Pete Hegseth for his reported orders to “kill everybody” on an alleged drug boat in September.
“The Washington Post report was about the first such attack on September 2nd,” O’Donnell said.
“Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck,” O’Donnell added. “The special operations commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions. Two people familiar with the matter said the two men were blown apart in the water.”
Hegseth reportedly ordered a U.S. strike to kill everyone aboard a suspected smuggling vessel at the time, prompting senators to vow “vigorous oversight” into the suspected crime that killed 11 people near the coast of Trinidad, as The Washington Post reported.
The “Last Word” host suggested during his monologue that these strikes are a distraction.
“There is no war in Venezuela,” said O’Donnell. “There will never be a war in Venezuela. Donald Trump foolishly decided to publicly play with the idea of war in Venezuela to distract from the Epstein files, a distraction that has failed miserably.”
Jeffrey Epstein, who once called Trump his “closest friend,” died behind bars in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. His death and known ties to powerful people has fueled theories of a “client list.” The classified Epstein documents are set to be released.
O’Donnell noted that the commander overseeing the September strike, Adm. Frank M. Bradley, said during a conference call that the survivors were still legitimate targets “because they could theoretically call other traffickers to retrieve them.”
The survivors were killed in a second strike.
“Today, the White House press secretary, who has never conducted a press briefing without lying, said that Adm. Bradley issued the order for a second strike on his own without Pete Hegseth telling him to do that,” said O’Donnell about Karoline Leavitt.
He continued, “And Donald Trump’s first instinct, as we know, is always to lie about everything. And so, when asked about this, the very first words out of his mouth were, ‘I don’t know anything about it.’ That’s a classic Trump statement. He always says that.”
Trump indeed claimed ignorance Sunday when asked about the incident, telling reporters he “wouldn’t have wanted” a second strike. O’Donnell went on to quote Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.), who received a classified briefing on the matter in October.
Moulton said, according to The Washington Post, “Mark my words: It may take some time, but Americans will be prosecuted for this, either as a war crime or outright murder.”
