Jimmy Kimmel on Monday pointed out a bitter irony of President Donald Trump’s first move after launching military strikes on Iran over the weekend.

“Trump has been now, after the bombing, calling for the Iranian people to rise up to topple the regime, which is the opposite of what he said he would do,” Kimmel pointed out. “He usually only calls for the overthrow of a government when he loses an election.”

Kimmel also showed clips of Trump in past years predicting that then-President Barack Obama would go to war with Iran to help his sagging poll numbers ahead of an election.

Trump in one 2011 clip said a war with Iran would be a sign of a president who has “absolutely no ability to negotiate” and is “weak” and “ineffective.”

“Well, look at that,” Kimmel said, now that those words are coming back to haunt Trump. “Another prediction he got right. Nostra-Dumbass has done it again!”

Kimmel suggested there’s another reason Trump struck Iran.

“When your best friend was a pedophile and you’re losing bigly in the swing states with an election coming up, what do you do?” Kimmel asked. “I’ll tell you what you do: You fire the weapons of mass distraction.”

Trump’s assault on Iran comes as he faces new questions over his relationship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was once a close friend.
