One way of relating to our contractions (what we’re resisting) is being inside or outside them.

When we’re inside them, we see life through the lens (energy) of that resistance. Founded on a past unresolved experience (ours or an ancestor’s), it creates a filter on our current experience. Anything that subtly reminds us of the “hazard” of our contraction can trigger it. This can be occasional or ongoing.

For example, certain circumstances can trigger irrational fear, or we may feel it all the time. This can be subconscious or very conscious. If subconscious, we’ll not feel fear, but we’ll feel its effects, like persistent anxiety, restlessness, or foreboding.

Having it conscious is helpful, but we can’t fully heal it until the root itself is conscious. Then the unresolved experience can be processed and resolved. This is where good energy and somatic modalities can be deeply valuable. 

For the big stuff, there can be a history of re-contracting when it begins to surface. We fear even the experience of fear; we’re averse even to a taste of anger; and so forth. This can create extra levels of protection. For example, we could add a layer of contracted anger to protect us from our repressed fear. This results in layers. It then takes a few rounds of processing to get to the root.

Being outside the contraction, at least to a degree, allows us to experience and process it without reliving it, without stepping into it. We’re able to assure those “parts” that are keeping us “safe” by keeping it hidden. It’s okay to experience it now. 

As we heal, we can move back into the body more fully, without contracting. We can embody the awakening in our life. We can enjoy the entire house while living in our true nature.
