"The Witch" A family in the 1630s moves out into a lonely wooded area and begin to have deadly encounters and the Puritan family begins to believe their daughter may be a witch. This is really chilling and absolutely beautifully filmed and acted.

"The Covenant" Boys in a private school are part of a heritage of warlocks with powers they are too spoiled to handle. This is sensual and lush in a New England autumn with leaves blowing across the streets, a boarding school, and a kicking soundtrack.

"The Village" A town in the woods that seems to be from another historic era. The townspeople avoid the forests around them and the monster that dwells within. This was a lovely tale in a beautiful setting that seems idyllic but holds many secrets and a twist ending.

"Shattered Silence" (aka as "When Michael Calls") A woman in New England is receiving phone calls from a nephew who died long ago. If you were a kid in the 70s, this movie will make you nostalgic. Very New England in autumn feeling and school carnivals and the like.

"Night of the Scarecrow" This 1995 movie has a town keeping a secret from the distant past, but the secret comes alive in a scarecrow that torments the founding families. This farmland rural setting is good.

"Night of the Living Dead" The countryside of Maryland feels isolated and lonely, but one day the dead rise up and citizens struggle to survive the night. This classic black and white zombie movie feels like Maryland in the autumn. It is stark and bleak.

"Halloween" This babysitters stalked by a maniac film was super low budget and super beloved Halloween movie of all time. It may have been filmed in Hollywood, but even with a low budget and a bunch of leaves and a fan, they were able to make us believe it's autumn. 

"Brotherhood of the Wolf" A village has a menacing wolf killing off the citizens. This lush French werewolf movie is woods and fields, towns and done in the chilly feel of gorgeous sets. 

"Salem's Lot" A quiet town is disrupted when a strange antique shop owner arrives and moves into the secluded mansion on the hill. This 1970s mini series seriously creeped us kids out and it had a very autumn, chilly, New England feel to it.

"In Dreams" A mother finds out she is psychic and somehow her mind is connected to a murderer who may have killed her daughter. This Robert Downey Jr movie has a seriously chilly autumn feel and even has part of the set inside an abandoned apple juice barn. It is beautiful, especially the opening scene of divers in a lake where a church and cemetery remain from a flooded town.

"Wolfman" A man afflicted with the bite of a wolf becomes a werewolf. This remake had a good chilly forest and lots of atmosphere. Gothic feeling.

"The Fog" (1980) A quiet town is disrupted by a fog bank that brings with it vengeful spirits. It's the fog and the darkness that make this have a cool and chilly feel.

"Kaw" A town being attacked by blackbirds has a very rural and chilly autumn feel. Creepy atmosphere.

"Dead Silence" A man's wife dies and he thinks it may be tied to a ventriloquist doll that arrived at their doorstep. You don't like ventriloquist dolls? Well, imagine a spooky dark atmosphere, a cemetery, a crawlspace, an abandoned theater filled with dolls... This has atmosphere and mood up the wazoo.

"Trollhunter" A team of young researchers chase after a mysterious man who shows up at locations that had been under an unknown attack. They join him and learn that he is a troll hunter. This gorgeous Norwegian setting is icy, forested, chilly alpine lakes. It has a very autumn tone to it. I just love how they portrayed the trolls.

"The Amityville Horror"  This movie of a family cursed by a haunted home has a very chilly feel. It's as if the whole thing took place on the waterfront in a spooky old house in late fall when it's chilly and as foreboding outside as inside. 

"What Lies Beneath" This tense drama between husband and wife with Harrison Ford has an autumn feel to it and beautiful setting. It is a classic gaslight theme and beautifully done. 

"The Exorcist" This horror movie about a possessed adolescent was cold, bleak, and darkly disturbing.

"The Awakening" A woman in the WWI Era debunks hauntings and is called to a boy's academy in the middle of nowhere to evaluate what is happening there. This beautifully filmed ghost story takes place in the English countryside with a very chilly feel in a big old boy's school building.

"The Watcher in the Woods" This movie set in England and a family moving into a home with a secret has a beautiful woodland feel with autumn bite.

"The Woman in Black"  This gothic style tale is of a grieving widowed lawyer from a past era who is sent to a huge scary mansion to settle a dead man's affairs. This gorgeous film set in the UK has a bleak, lonely, castle feel. I just love the antique children's toys!

"Campfire Tales" A group of teens crashes their car, sets up a bonfire in the woods to await help and decide to share scary stories. This grouping of urban legends is tense and well done with an autumn feel to the stories. My favorite urban-legend-themed film.

"Half Light" This Demi Moore movie has a writer who loses her son and marriage dissolves, so she sets out for Ireland to grieve in a lonely seaside cottage, but keeps being haunted by her son. She soon meets a handsome lonely lighthouse keeper and a chilling mystery unfolds. Beautifully filmed, you want to just be there in that place.

"The Messengers"  A beautiful sunflower farm meets a family, resulting in terror and murder. This farmland ghost story has a bleak feel and beautiful farm setting that feels very fall-like.

"When a Stranger Calls" (remake)  The remake sets the babysitter's sitting home in an autumn lakefront location. This remake version satisfies the part of us that wanted more from the tormenting caller.

"Chernobyl Diaries" This movie about couples wanting to urban explore Pripyat, the abandoned irradiated town, has a bleak and barren feel. 

"Final Terror" Young adults working in the forest run into an urban legend killer. Has a chilly camping feel. If you love the forest, this is a good one!
