CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten highlighted what he called a total “switcheroo” in public opinion on one of Donald Trump’s signature policies: deportations.

Support for Trump’s deportation agenda has plunged from +18 points in February 2025 to –8 points today, Enten noted during Monday’s broadcast of “News Central.”

The dramatic shift shows that “the Trump administration and Trump in particular has lost the center of the electorate when it comes to a key component of his administration’s agenda,” Enten continued.

Host John Berman noted that Trump initially enjoyed broad support for his promise to remove dangerous criminals from the country, but now most Americans no longer believe that’s what the policy is doing.

That change, Enten said, is “a big reason why” the overall polling has shifted so radically.

Enten linked the tanking of Trump’s deportation policy approval numbers to surveys showing that 74% of Americans said he’s not fulfilling his promise to lower prices.

“That is a very dangerous thing,” said Enten. “That’s the reason why the American people really elected Donald Trump — to lower prices — and they think he’s taken his eye off the ball and is too focused on deporting those who are here illegally. And that is very bad politics.”
