Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) on Sunday hit back at President Donald Trump, who attacked his marriage in a social media post last week.

“We’re taking it with a grain of salt,” Massie said on “This Week” on ABC. “He’s being a bully or trying to be a bully.”

Massie married Carolyn Grace Moffa in October. Rhonda Howard Massie, his first wife and “high school sweetheart,” died suddenly in June 2024 after more than 30 years of marriage. No cause of death was given.

Thrice-married Trump disparaged Massie over the nuptials on Friday.

“Did Thomas Massie, sometimes referred to as Rand Paul Jr., because of the fact that he always votes against the Republican Party, get married already??? Boy, that was quick!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

During his “This Week” appearance, Massie brushed off the president’s comments with a joke.

“You know, my wife told me, she said, ‘I told you so ― we should have invited Donald Trump. He’s mad that he didn’t get an invitation,’” Massie cracked.

Massie has drawn Trump’s ire for sponsoring a House discharge petition that would force the release of files related to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a former friend of the president.

Last year, Trump and his allies campaigned on the promise of releasing those files. Once in office, however, they released files that had already been shared with a group of right-wing influencers. By summer, Attorney General Pam Bondi said there were no more files to release.

Those comments sparked anger on both sides of the aisle and a push by lawmakers such as Massie to force the release of the files through legislation. After working behind the scenes to try to kill the effort, Trump reversed course over the weekend and urged Republicans to support it.

Trump’s flip occurred after it became clear the bill would easily pass the House, with Massie predicting that “100 or more” Republicans would vote to support it.

The House is expected to vote this week.
