Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayRep. Maria Salazar (R-Fla.) appeared to agree with President Donald Trump’s worst fears about the afterlife as she defended the president for calling a female journalist “piggy.”
While aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump attempted to silence a question on the Jeffrey Epstein files from Bloomberg News reporter Catherine Lucey.
“Quiet. Quiet, piggy,” the president snapped.
Salazar, a former journalist, was asked about Trump’s remarks by Jake Tapper on CNN on Tuesday.
She said the president is a “different type of politician,” and that she opts to “look at his policies and not at his personality.”
“No one is perfect. Those who are perfect are in heaven,” Salazar added, before shifting her answer to talk about Trump being uniquely positioned to crack down on immigration. (Watch the video below.)
Trump, 79, has of late repeatedly talked about where he will end up when he dies.
“I think I’m not maybe heaven-bound,” he said in October, and noted in August that he was “really at the bottom of the totem pole.”
The White House defended Trump’s comments by saying Lucey “behaved in an inappropriate and unprofessional way toward her colleagues on the plane.”
“If you’re going to give it, you have to be able to take,” an official said in a statement.
A Bloomberg News spokesperson responded to the controversy by saying that its White House journalists “perform a vital public service, asking questions without fear or favor,” and that “we remain focused on reporting issues of public interest fairly and accurately.”
Trump routinely attempts to belittle reporters.
On Tuesday, he raged at Mary Bruce, the chief White House correspondent at ABC News, for disrespecting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman by asking a question about the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
“I think you are a terrible reporter. It’s the way you ask these questions,” Trump said.
