Last night, Spencer Pratt appeared on Gutfeld!, sharing an interesting take on celebrity endorsements. “I don’t care about celebrity endorsements,” he stated plainly. This remark starkly contrasts with the recent moves made by Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, who seems to be actively seeking every available endorsement from Hollywood stars. The latest endorsement comes from none other than Jane Fonda, an enduring figure in liberal circles.

Fonda’s support isn’t surprising. For decades, she has been a vocal advocate for various progressive causes. Mayor Bass praised her, saying, “Jane Fonda has spent her life on the front lines — from civil rights to women’s rights to the fight for our climate — and I’m deeply honored to have her support.” Bass clearly believes that having Fonda in her corner bolsters her campaign in a meaningful way.

Yet, this endorsement raises eyebrows. Fonda has a history of controversial actions, notably her opposition to the Vietnam War, which some still view as traitorous. In the political narrative, her seemingly unwavering support for left-wing candidates paints a picture of a Hollywood elite disconnected from the concerns of average Americans. Kennedy from FOX News didn’t hold back in her response to this endorsement: “When American POWs tried to sneak her notes with their personal information to tell their families they were still alive, she gave them to the North Vietnamese. Some of them were beaten to death.” This sharp criticism underscores a persistent animosity towards Fonda and her brand of activism.

The strength of Kennedy’s retort not only calls attention to Fonda’s past but also highlights the complex dynamics at play in modern-day political endorsements. Many see these celebrity endorsements as reflections of out-of-touch elites pushing agendas that don’t resonate with everyday citizens. The remark “You are both commies and you can both fuck off” is emblematic of this frustration and reflects a larger sentiment in the discourse surrounding political endorsements from Hollywood figures.

As the Los Angeles mayoral race approaches, the implications of such endorsements will likely linger in public conversation. For Bass, the support from Fonda could be a double-edged sword—gaining name recognition but also inviting criticism that could overshadow her campaign’s merits. The coming months will reveal whether this Hollywood connection strengthens her position or becomes a liability as more voters engage with the issues at hand.
