President Donald Trump gave mixed signals on Friday, 9 October 2026, about plans to livestream Nidal Malik Hasan’s execution at Fort Hood, Texas. His remarks followed condemnation of the proposed firing-squad broadcast by evangelical and Catholic leaders.

The controversy followed Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth’s announcement that the Pentagon intended to make the execution available for public viewing. Hasan, a former US Army psychiatrist, is scheduled to be executed on 3 December, although legal challenges could delay the sentence.

Hasan was convicted in 2013 of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder. The convictions stemmed from his November 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, where 13 people died and dozens were injured.
