Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDonald Trump’s remarks on the importance of caring for the most vulnerable children drew major eye rolls and accusations of deep hypocrisy on Thursday.
The president, speaking at a White House event launching first lady Melania Trump’s “Fostering the Future” initiative, which seeks to expand opportunities for youngsters in foster care, said:
“The Bible tells us that one of the measures of any society is how it cares for vulnerable children and orphans. So important, and it is so big in the Bible. So, as we make America great again, we’re going to protect American children in foster care and we’re going to ensure that they will never, ever be forgotten.”
Watch from the 15:45 point here:
Some people on social media suggested Trump was misquoting the Bible with his political spin on the long-standing idea of helping those most in need.
Many, though, highlighted how the president’s rhetoric was in stark contrast to his record, particularly his administration’s attempt to block Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments to low-income families during the recently ended government shutdown.
“You literally fought in court to strip families of food assistance,” California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) pointed out on X, formerly Twitter.
You have taken food and health benefits from children and seniors. You have gone to SCOTUS to prevent SNAP Benifits as late as a day or so ago. You are a hypocrite and not a Christian. And you are panicking. https://t.co/NfmVxVH43T

Yes and you went to court over and over again to take food assistance away from 14 million children… I don’t think that behavior is what the Bible was teaching.. https://t.co/qHfU2jsjCk
