Donald Trump drew yet more accusations of narcissism with his response to a journalist’s question about the funeral of 20-year-old National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, who was killed following an attack in Washington, D.C.

Asked whether he plans to attend Beckstrom’s funeral, Trump admitted he hadn’t “thought about it yet” but said it was “certainly something I can conceive of.”

“I love West Virginia,” he continued, referencing Beckstrom’s home state.

The president then pivoted to what critics said made the moment all about himself.

“You know, I won West Virginia by one of the biggest margins of any president anywhere, and these are great people,” Trump boasted.

“I love the people of West Virginia. I love the people of our country,” he added. “But I haven’t given it any thought — but it sounds like something I could do, yeah. It’s very raw.”

Q: Do you plan to attend Sarah's funeral?

Critics on social media called Trump “truly the most demented malignant narcissist alive,” said he lacks empathy and called the moment “gross.”

He did the same nonsense when asked if he was attending Charlie Kirk’s funeral. Started talking about the ballroom. He’s really lost it.

He couldn't conceive of going to a funeral in a state he had lost?

— StickyBunny (@skullisland1919) November 28, 2025

Damn, he transitions to himself breathtakingly easy.

— EMTPMC (@EMMCTP) November 28, 2025

He couldn't, even for one moment, just be a decent person and not make it about himself.

Lord have mercy and may her memory be eternal. https://t.co/xdh5jSLTvI

He lacks empathy. He is a narcissist. Don’t understand the people who thinks this is leadership.

— Educator (@DrAnnLopez) November 28, 2025

I genuinely don't understand why he needs to bring up the state someone is from and then talk about how well he did in the election. It's just gross.

It's like holding one's breath underwater; he starts feeling restless, begins to gasp if it goes beyond a minute when someone or he himself has not been praising him.

Continually amazed that someone who's been in public life as long as Trump has lacks the capacity to say anything appropriate when someone has died. https://t.co/OzlLEERpQL
