A number of Black nationalists critical of the Democratic Party are crying foul over Philadelphia Black Panther Party For Self Defense Chairman Paul Birdsong's call to patrol ICE protests populated by largely White leftists.

Our nationalists and other independents not aligned with Democrats are sitting out the deportation issue. In their view, it's not a Black community fight, as evidenced by relative lack of participation in political combat with DHS agents and officers. (Here and Here)

Birdsong invokes the first wave Panther's internationalism (and integrationism) as rationale for his latter day alliance with White leftists.

This stance is being hotly contested by a significant percentage of 'conscious' or nationalist community' members whose interpretation of first wave Black Panther positions differs from his.

Also, the first wave of the Black Panther Party For Self Defense, while community based, did ally with activists from other communities and global movements.

Today's Black nationalists aren't focused on outside alliances. After liberal integration efforts stalled a generation ago, this sector redoubled efforts on local control and community safety.

I'm not joining speculation about whether this young man is a 'foundational Black American' or government agent.

My interest is on Black nationalists crying foul over a call to patrol White leftist ICE protests issued by this Philadelphia Black Panther.

Most of us are sitting this one out.
