I came across this item on Amazon (above) and smiled. For decades I've wanted to pick one up. The idea of carrying it around for use against assailants (believe me, it works!) was rather badass and that it is made of black obsidian (reason below) made it a MUST HAVE!

Black obsidian is said to be a protective stone, blocking against negative energies. It is truth seeking, leading to honesty and being upfront. It is also said to help trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, and anger.

Apache Tear

I am reminded of another tribe, the Apache, who believed black obsidian was of importance.

Apache Leap - Superior, AZ

The legend (researchers haven't found proof yet) goes that 75 Apaches jumped off the edge of this mountain rather than be taken in by the US Army.

Nearby at Picketpost Mountain, Apache Tear stones are easily found. Within the white perlite hillside, one can take a hammer and break open the perlite to find an apache tear within, intact and shining. This black obsidian acquire the name because of the legend of the Apache Leap.

I've mined these and it is really exciting, rather like finding a pearl in an oyster. They are said to heal grief and bring comfort when grieving. In fact, a gift like this to someone who lost a loved one is a very sensitive and kind gesture.

Carry great reverence for the first nation of the Americas. These tribes know this land and its history and magic in ways we need to be mentored.
