Anthropic is testing a new version of its Claude app that will give the AI assistant direct access to users’ bank accounts, according to leaked screenshots.
The personal finance tool, reportedly named Claude Money, offers spending analysis and financial planning to any app users that connect their bank accounts to the app.
The new feature, first spotted by TestingCatalog on X, appears just below the ‘Chats’ tab on the sidebar of the Claude app for iOS.
“Understand your money with Claude,” the page states. “Link your bank accounts and ask Claude about spending, plans, and more.”
It is not clear which banks it will support, or when and where it will launch, though it will likely be limited to US users to begin with.
The Independent has reached out to Anthropic for more information.
OpenAI has already launched a similar service for paid users through ChatGPT Finances, which supports more than 12,000 financial institutions in the US, including credit cards and brokerages.
ChatGPT Finances aims to provide users with information regarding their spending, savings and investments, though privacy laws and regulation means it is yet to roll out in Europe.
Cyber security experts have noted that the new tools raise concerns about data centralisation, meaning hackers could gain access to high value data like chat history and financial details through a single attack
On the same day that screenshots of the Claude Money feature leaked, Anthropic publicly announced Claude for Financial Advisors, which is aimed at institutional users rather than consumers.
The new tools are part of an industry shift that is seeing AI tools move from text generation chatbots to autonomous agents capable of researching information and carrying out tasks on behalf of users.
The transition from generative AI to agenitic AI has been described by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang as a “multi-trillion-dollar opportunity”, ushering in an era where time-consuming or complex tasks are no longer carried out by humans.
