President Donald Trump weighed in on some high-profile state and local elections this week by telling his followers to vote Republican, or else.

“VIRGINIA AND NEW JERSEY, REMEMBER THIS: A VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN MEANS SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER ENERGY PRICES, A VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT, ESPECIALLY THESE TWO LOSERS WHO ARE RUNNING, MEANS A DOUBLING, TRIPLING, AND EVEN QUADRUPLING OF YOUR ENERGY COSTS,” he wrote Monday. “IT WILL NOT BE SUSTAINABLE, AND YOU WILL RUE THE DAY THAT YOU VOTED TO DESTROY YOUR LIFE! FAILING TO VOTE TOMORROW IS THE SAME AS VOTING FOR A DEMOCRAT.”

Trump himself has made one notable exception by endorsing Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who is running as an independent, for New York mayor over his Republican opponent, Curtis Sliwa.

He also slammed Mamdani, a self-identified democratic socialist, as a “Communist Candidate” before threatening to withhold funding if Mamdani swept to victory on Tuesday as numerous polls have predicted.

“His principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful. I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a Record of Success, WIN, than a Communist with no experience and a Record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE,” he wrote. “He was nothing as an Assemblyman, ranked at the bottom of the class and, as Mayor of potentially, again, the Greatest City in the World, HE HAS NO CHANCE to bring it back to its former Glory!”

On Tuesday, Trump went even further by asserting that any Jewish New Yorker who casts a ballot for Mamdani is “a stupid person.”

A New York Times report published in August suggested Cuomo and Trump had a warmer relationship now than they did during Cuomo’s decadelong tenure as New York governor and had held a call about the election. That same month, Cuomo told supporters at a fundraiser that he felt good about having Trump’s support, according to Politico.

Mamdani, meanwhile, has used the president’s backing of Cuomo as an attacking point.

“In these final days, what was rumored, what was feared, has become naked and unabashed,” he told reporters earlier this week. “The MAGA movement’s embrace of Andrew Cuomo is reflective of Donald Trump’s understanding that this would be the best mayor for him.”
