TVs and lights turning on by themselves, along with bangs and a ghostly sighting, led staff at the Sheffield bar to call in a paranormal investigation team.

After a recent escalation in spooky experiences, staff at Sheffield’s Meltdown bar called in experts who conducted a lengthy review of the possibly haunted venue.

Game bar staff member Adam Varley said: ‘I was at the end of the bar when I felt like someone was approaching to come and talk to me.

“So I looked up and saw someone coming to pick me up but there was no one there.

“It really gave me chills. I’m not easily scared like that, but when it happened I got a little chill.”

The Meltdown Bar was originally called the Black Swan from WWII until the 1960s when it turned into the Boardwalk, which became a popular music venue in Sheffield.

WAH Paranormal, who carried out the investigation, suggested that the bar’s long history could be a reason for the paranormal activity.

WAH (which stands for Wendy, Andy and Hayley) is a paranormal group based in Sheffield formed in the fall of 2021. They have conducted numerous investigations in Yorkshire at haunted locations including Rotherham’s Rock Abbey and the Cadeby Tunnel of Doncaster.

An hour-long video posted to WAH’s official YouTube channel captured several eerie moments as they explored the bar.

Using a “ghost box”, which uses radio frequency for spirits to make contact, WAH appeared to record a disembodied voice that said “hello”, “who’s there?”, “oh wow” and “I’m sorry for letting you down”.

More chillingly, the voice was also recorded saying what sounded like, “Help me.”

During the investigation, Hayley reported that her phone had repeatedly stopped recording and also said she felt cold, both signs of paranormal activity.

She asked the spirits in the Meltdown cellar, “Is anyone who died in the war stuck here?”

This triggered a K2 device, which claims to use electromagnetic fields to see if there are any spirits present.

After seeing strange “orbs” floating around the bar during the investigation, Wendy said, “Well, it’s either dust or it’s a lot of people in here.”

The jury may still be out, but the general feeling was that something in the bar was definitely wrong – if you want to check out the sighting for yourself, click here.
